Nutrient Dense Foods List

March 4th, 2009

Especially with the recent popularization of nutrient dense foods to encourage weight loss, everybody has been searching for a list.  Nutrient dense foods by definition provide significant amounts of the vitamins and minerals that your body needs, while producing a more efficient satiation within the body.  It includes mostly foods that are not processed, don’t have added sugars or fats, low caloric values, and rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc.  This includes quite a few fruits and vegetables as well as lean meats such as chicken and salmon.  Others include some beans, oats, rices, and pastas.  Out of the various dairy products, only those fat free or extremely low fat qualify.  Fruits and vegetables are easy to discern as nutrient rich foods.  But the following includes some that may be more complicated.

            *fat free cottage cheese

            *fat free mozzarella

            *oatmeal

            *barley

            *rice

            *whole grain foods

            *skinless chicken breasts

            *salmon

            *vegetable oil

Dietary fats can vary according to the amount of calories you are taking in on an average daily basis.  However, a healthy balance of all these types of nutrient dense foods is the best way to go both for short term weight loss and long term overall health benefits.  Some are just easier to differentiate than others.
