Smoking is essentially speaking an oral fixation as is eating in some ways. Therefore, when people stop smoking, they often fill that oral fixation with food and gain weight. But does it work the other way around. Does smoking promote weight loss?

Well, that’s a complicated question. On one hand, you see little anorexic type girls who are constantly smoking instead of eating. They actually replace meals with smoking, and obviously that promotes greater weight loss, because you are not eating. But on the other hand, they don’t stop smoking, even though it’s bad for you, because many are afraid of ultimately gaining weight, which is what often happens.

If you are replacing meals with smoking, obviously actually eating healthy amounts may make you gain weight at first. And if those foods are equally as unhealthy for you including more fats, sugars, and otherwise junk food, you are definitely going to gain weight. But ultimately speaking, the question is does smoking promote weight loss?

Not in and of itself. Nicotine has no appetite suppressing properties, it has no fat burning properties like amphetamines. It has nothing that would actually promote greater weight loss. The weight loss only comes when people are replacing meals with cigarettes.

I’ve seen the meatheads at the gym who grease up their bodies, run around with no neck, think they’re all tough. Nobody really wants to look like them, half of them you can guarantee have used steroids to get there. It’s not fun at all. This being said, you want to be muscular maybe, you want to be defined. But you actually want to have a neck and you actually want to burn fat so that you look better in general. So how do you do this?

Well obviously you want to lift weights. Lifting weights builds those muscles and enhances your natural metabolism. But part of the reason they get big is because they lift really heavy weights. Instead, try actually living lighter weights and instead do more reps for greater endurance among other things. And of course, remember to stretch. Sometimes, you find that they can’t even reach any part of their back, not because they are so bulked up, but because they never stretched in the process. This doesn’t help anything.

Second, never forget about your cardio. Cardio is extremely important, and frankly speaking, without cardio, you ultimately cannot burn away the fat to reveal the muscles you have worked so hard for. So it’s extremely important to remember your cardio. Get your heart rate up, get some sweat going, run or do something else for at least an hour per day.

And finally, balance out your workouts. When you are lifting weights, cycle between muscle groups. Do your arms one day and your legs the next. You can always work your abs or your core. But cycle one day on your arms and upper body and the other day on your legs and lower body. Give them time to rest in between.

Now specifically speaking, one of the biggest times that people tend to lose weight is right before their wedding day. I mean I’ve seen tiny women who claim that they can’t even fit into their wedding dress now, because they’ve gained weight. I can’t imagine them actually losing weight or being at a lower weight for their wedding day. But the whole losing weight for that big day is a typical thing. I mean we all want to look our best, and frankly after I’ve heard plenty blame the same schedule and eating habits for the weight they gain afterward. But realistically speaking, you can keep up a good diet and exercise program whether you’re dating somebody, single, or married to them. It’s just a matter of disciplining yourself into it.

You don’t have to eat all that they do, and frankly women really shouldn’t compete in that domain, especially with some men. Some men are far worse than others. This being said, basically speaking if you want to lose weight for your wedding, it’s not a bad thing for your health if you are actually going to keep it off. That’s not a bad thing at all. First, stay away from diet pills you see on TV. They are always fraudulent and sometimes dangerous. Second, start eating smaller and healthier meals throughout the day. This could mean like salads or it could mean the healthier subways or it could mean just things you make at home in general. And finally, remember to get a gym membership or whatever you need and work out!

CLA has been long promoted as the ultimate way to lose weight and drop fat without actually using stimulants or causing side effects. It’s the good fat found in things like sunflower seeds, and apparently it also increases your muscle production if you use 4500mg or more. So it’s been popular. But in studying it, while I like all this, I’ve also found that it’s an extra 2-3 pounds per year! Wow, not so great now. I mean this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it. You should definitely use it.

It promotes weight loss, it’s actually necessary to the body’s basic functions, you really need CLA. But this being said, you should really use it. It’s found in multiple foods. For example, it’s found in beef and lamb. You should keep in mind that the amounts in these are actually so small as to be completely inconsequential and so you really should not use those particular foods, especially with all the fats and otherwise that counteract any possible benefits. That’s definitely not a good thing. But there are other sources like certain seeds that can help you to get better benefits without all the calories, without all the fat, without all the risks essentially speaking.

The idea when you are eating is to eat less, suppress appetite, and lose weight. We take natural appetite suppressants all the time, and with the exception of water, they cost money. Even chewing gum, which is a major natural appetite suppressant, you spend a few quarters at least. But you can also suppress appetite with foods. For example, you can suppress appetite with almonds. It would be better if you like them. But apparently a study showed that women who ate at least 2 servings of almonds per day ended up eating less throughout the day.

Likewise, apples, a medium sized apple, has tons of pectin and fiber and will naturally suppress your appetite. Pine nuts are highly useful, and they are actually used in natural appetite suppressant pills because of this. But a big one that I have noticed is actually eggs. Eggs you eat one and you are full for a few hours, just one egg. Yes, they are high in cholesterol with the yolks and all. But they are also high in protein, and they fill you up with small amounts for quite a few hours, which is not a bad thing.

Frankly speaking, we all love the holidays. The holidays are an excuse and a time to eat more junk food, to eat more candy, to get fat and then feel guilty later and go on the after holidays diet, which usually hits around the time of New Years and our New Years resolutions in general terms. Now as far as Halloween goes, you really can’t promote healthier habits in other people’s kids. They have all sorts of warnings out against accepting apples for example because of all the needles and things some sickos are sticking in there. That being said, they only really accept things that are in tight packaging for a reason.

This being said, you may not be the most popular house on the block. But you can try things such as little boxes of raisins or really any other dried fruits. Likewise, you can try little bags of pretzels, veggie chips, or microwave popcorn for that matter. Graham crackers and lower calorie cookies can be quite helpful for many people, and there are quite a few different foods that you can give to trick or treaters or for that matter eat yourself that really keep the calories down. Frankly, most parents will limit their kids consumption of the candy after if only to avoid sugared up hyper kids. But at the same point in time, it doesn’t hurt anything to contribute better things to the cause.

Even before it was hot, I drank green tea, because I flat out like the taste. I’ve never been a big fan of those iced green teas you find in the grocery store, because even though they say that they only flavor it, they pack it with sugar, even the lemon kind that you would expect to have a slight tang more than anything else. But with the way Americans drink their hot green tea, I see why they do this. Basically speaking, the one time I bought one of those green teas, I had to water it down pouring half of it into another container and pouring more water in, which unfortunately watered down the green tea effect as well, which is really unfortunate.

This being said, if you are drinking green tea, keep in mind that it shouldn’t just taste like sugar. The sugar is meant to give slight compliment to the tea itself. If you can drink it without any sugar or additives of any kind, it’s far better for you as frankly green tea on its own burns off calories. But if you are adding in more calories, you are defeating the whole purpose thereof. So if you are going to use it, use real sugar as artificial sweeteners are really harmful, and just limit yourself to one pack per 8oz cup. Either that or actually use lemon. If you squeeze a little lemon in there, it’s not a bad thing believe it or not, or even one small pack of honey again is not a bad thing.

I find it interesting what steps we take to try to protect our kids. We have these ideas that it takes a village to raise a child, and it does. But at the same point in time, we are continually taking a lot of the responsibility off the shoulders of parents who provide the real basis for healthy living and otherwise. I mean if parents didn’t give kids lunch money and instead just packed them sack lunches every day with healthy foods, they might trade around foods. But frankly, if other kids won’t trade with them, they don’t really get a better choice and at home of course you should try to feed them healthier.

But Iowa has apparently passed an act called the Healthy Kids Act. Basically, they require students to get CPR training before graduation, they have nutritional guidelines for all foods sold and distributed at the schools, they basically set up more exercise and activity requiring that all students have at least 30-120 minutes of exercise per day depending on the age group. Some parts are hard to manage. I mean I got out of PE every year after 5th grade because of bad asthma. But realistically speaking, you can’t monitor their lives in total. It eventually falls back to parents.

Now usually I think of sleep apnea, because sleep apnea is a condition a lot of people have and it’s preventable. It’s usually associated with obesity, although there have of course been some cases, just as there are cases of type 2 diabetes, where that was not exactly a factor. This being said, Hypopnea is a bit different. With sleep apnea, they stop breathing completely for seconds at a time.

With Hypopnea, it’s more of shallow breaths to be expected in some ways. It lasts longer than 10 seconds, and frankly it can cause greater problems in sleeping for obvious reasons, and even after having the right amount of sleep, they continue to be tired and irritable in general. Snoring is a big sign. Now there are cases where Hypopnea is just genetics. However, in most cases there are things you can avoid to avoid aggravating the situation in general.

This being said, you can for example quit smoking. This is a must. Likewise, obesity is generally recognized to play a big part in the condition, though I’ve heard some reports of overblown tonsils having a big part in it. Exercising regularly and avoiding alcohol can also help, and you should not sleep on your back. This being said, there are multiple ways, but a big part is losing weight.

Now one thing that really motivates most people to really make a change in their lifestyles is a heart attack. Often enough, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart disease are a big thing granted. But they don’t really make that big impact. A heart attack, triple bypass, stuff like that however, even a stroke, is a big thing for most people. They can happen to those who are not obese, but they are much more prevalent in those who happen to be. This being said, my neighbor was not really fat, but he had a gut, which puts you at higher risk because the fat is frankly surrounding those vital organs and otherwise.

So when he had a heart attack, he didn’t follow the South Beach Diet or any other low carb diet that could actually include foods that wouldn’t help your heart and would be a short distance to a shallow grave. But he used one largely based on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. He ended up losing about 50 pounds, mostly from the belly area which is where he really had it to lose. But this is all something to consider. Hopefully you never get to this point of desperate measures. However, when you do, you really have to consult with your doctor to find the best approach that will specifically address the heart.
